5 ways to help your mindset each and every day

do you have days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed? weeks? sometimes months? are you unmotivated to do some things because you’re tired or just keep procrastinating?

chances are, you’re just in the wrong mindset. mindset can be the best and the worst things you can have – all at the same time. if you’re not motivated, you’re not in the right mindset. here are 5 quick and easy ways to start having a better mindset – from sun up to sun down!

1 – create a morning routine

mornings can be the worst. sometimes the day can be daunting and others, the covers and blankets just feel more cozy to stay nestled in! regardless, the day has to start at some point and by starting this day off on the right foot, it sets the tone for the remainder of the day. for me, my morning routine looks like this.

1: alarm goes off at 5:20am

2: press snooze

there is nothing wrong with a snooze button that is PLANNED FOR!

3: alarm goes off again at 5:28am – get out of bed!

4: after the morning bathroom time, head downstairs to give hazel her morning bathroom time

5: feed the dog

6: while the dog is eating, take my morning supplement routine (curious about this?! send me a message!)

7: take Hazel for a walk – we are now around 6-6:15am

8: come back home – time check 7am – and make breakfast

9: eat breakfast and grab my daily journal to PLAN OUT MY DAY!

yes – i plan out my day, every single day! sometimes on saturday or sunday, i get a bit lazy and just enjoy a more go with the flow activity, but M-F i am a planning fool! i want to make the best of my time, ALL THE TIME! check out my free daily planner template to see how i capture my daily activities!

10: shower and finish getting ready for the work day

while that’s my morning routine, i get that not everyone has a dog, or the motivation to get up early. and that’s okay!  when doing  a bit of research for this blog i came across a site called https://mymorningroutine.com/routines/  and was blown away at all of the various morning routines that are out there! i encourage everyone to find what works for them – the point is – find something YOU like and YOU can stick to!

also, what’s better than starting with several accomplishments first thing each morning?

2 – your ability to focus

this might seem like a no brainer, but in todays day and age, it’s something taht we all struggle with daily.  why you ask? because of a thing we carry around all day, in our pockets, hands, purses – you name it – it’s almost always within arms length. that’s right – our cell phones! we are living in an age where we are constantly distracted. we get news alerts, text messages, email notifications not to mention social media streaming in constantly. it’s a never ending flow of information from everywhere and causes us to never focus and give our undivided attention onto any one thing.

think about the last time you were even on a phone call? how many times did you check your email? or your facebook page? or text someone back? we are never focused.

so the next time you are giving your undivided attention to something or someone, GET RID OF THE PHONE. turn it to silent, airplane mode – put it in a different room. do whatever it takes to have you truly focus and be IN THE MOMENT that you are in – you could be reading a book or talking with friends. but stay in that moment with no distractions – big or small – at your finger tips.

being able to have this focus time will allow you to start working with your mind to put yourself in better mindsets throughout the day. the quality of all the little tasks that you’re partaking in as well as the big ones will increase that overall QUALITY of your day and you’ll be surprised at how big of an impact this truly has.

3 – do NOT practice in self-hate

this might seem like a simple thought – but we (i speak specifically about women here but i’m sure men are guilty of it to) are QUEENS OF SELF-HATE! i’m sure you’re thinking, “no i’m not” until i say this...

“ugh, look at my hair today, why does it have to be so stringy?!” – yes that’s been me. or “WTF, is that cellulite on my thigh? why am i so fat” – again me. or the worst – “i’m not worth it so why bother” – guilty as charged!

have you said ANYTHING like that to yourself?! if so – STOP NOW! would you say that to your best friend? your family member? to ANYONE on the OUTSIDE?! no – it’s mean and hurtful and all it does is do damage so why are you saying it to yourself?!

it’s inevitable that these thoughts will cross our minds, especially when we are in a negative mindset. so reverse the thoughts. “wow, my hair is so long and thank goodness i’m not bald!” – okay! “damn! look at those curvy thighs!” – better! “i am a strong, successful and empowered woman who can do anything i set my mind to!” – best!!!

when negative thoughts come to mind – turn them around ASAP – because...

YOU are better than those thoughts!!!

4 – create an evening routine

i spoke earlier about a morning routine, but an evening routine is just as key! pick a time that you start getting ready for bed each night and stick to it! start winding down with a book, or another walk with the dog! anything you need to get your mind into knowing that it’s time to start unwinding from the day.

this has taken me a long time to work on – especially since electronics rule our lives sometimes! i am absolutely guilty of turning on a TV before bed, playing a game on my phone while i try and fall asleep, or even worse - reading work emails to make sure there’s nothing pressing before i’m out cold for the night.

all of this mania creates stimulation in our brains that then don’t allow us to truly shut off – when we need to! once we then close our eyes, our brains have no idea that it’s time to shut off and so it stays awake and runs all over the place before finally drifting into our sleep cycles. we do a great job of giving our kids a nightly routine – how come we can’t create one for ourselves!

i’ve put together a little checklist on how to get better sleep! to check it out, click below!

5 – rinse and repeat!

practice steps 1-4 daily and make them a habit. there are little steps you can do each and every day on the above to make your mindset stay in a positive way. there are many things in this world that have the potential to derail us from staying in the healthiest of mindsets, but we are in control of that. we have the ability to choose to be in whatever mindset we want – i hope you are choosing happy! and i hope that these steps give you the success you need to keep that mindset positive each and every day!!
