let’s keep this nice and short… why not use latex paint on furniture? 5 reasons why are:
– it tends to be high in VOCs. what are VOCs? Volatile Organic Compounds which really means it's super high in fumes (more so than furniture paint).
– most finishes are way too shiny (for my taste) and the ones that are not shiny are not durable (typically)!! they tend to scratch easily and are harder to clean even if you seal them accordingly.
– while yes, you can distress them, they tend to be harder to distress and “peel away” in big strips, not just small distressing spots to give the finishes you want.
– bleed through – wait what? stains can be harder to cover up with latex paint – yes, sometimes you will need to use a primer or even a stain blocker with furniture paints, but latex paint can be harder to tame those “bleeding spots”
– it bubbles – over time if moisture gets under the paint, because it’s rubbery and tends to “sit on” the furniture it will bubble up and then (go back to example 3) it will peel off in big strips – no bueno!!!
